  • A fresh start

Losing your job can be a great opportunity to do the things you’ve always meant to. If in the past you didn’t have time to climb Kilimanjaro or learn Spanish then why not do it now? Even on a tight budget there are ways.

We believe that with the job market continuing to look bleak many people will be best advised to take time out and come back in a year’s time with new energy and fresh ideas. We’ve got some great inspiration for you from other users and experts who have been there and done it.

If you don’t have the freedom to take time out and need to get straight back to work then we believe it pays to be creative. We have some good ideas on where to find work and how to get it, including lots of advice from our users on their experiences applying and interviewing for jobs. We’re not a recruitment site but can point you in the right direction.

That’s not all. We’re planning to add a section on starting your own business. Tell us what else you’d like to see here and we’ll work on it.

  • Travel

You’ll probably never have another opportunity like this to take time out and see the world. Not until retirement certainly. If you want the gap year that you never had, then go for it now.

Of course travelling is fun, but plan it right and you’ll also learn something and get experience which employers will value. We’ve brought you the best ideas of where to go and what to do, with blogs from people who have really done it.

Naturally travel costs money, which may well be in short supply, but if students can pay for a gap year then why not you? We’ve got some great tips on how to travel on a budget and earn as you go.

If you need a travel companion then use our forums to find somebody to go with.

  • Getting back to work

We want to bring you the good news about jobs. Despite the recession some companies are hiring. You might need to be flexible - look further afield, try a new line of work or take a pay cut - but there is work. We’ve got some tips on where to look: the employers who are hiring and the best of the job sites.

Competition for jobs is really intense right now so you’ll need to stand out from the crowd. We’ve got advice for you on how to apply for jobs the Tweenjo way: take the initiative and apply before jobs are even advertised, write a brilliant CV and shine out in interviews. We also have some great stories from other people who have overcome the odds to get hired.
